So I shot a music video with opera superstar Renée Fleming a few months ago, and the finished product is now viewable on Youtube. The video is for her cover of “Endlessly” by Muse – the song is a part of her new album Dark Hope. It was shot almost entirely on the Highline in Manhattan, and it turned out beautifully! Renée was really sweet and patient, and everyone was such a trooper! (It was quite chilly on the day in question.) I’m so glad I got to be a part of this!

Renée Fleming – Endlessly

There were three of us in the installation, and we had to remain still for the duration of the show. Vered wanted us to be covered completely in this fine white thread, and in order for that to happen we had to be sprayed with body glue during the setup process, which took over forty minutes in itself!
Partway through the night, Vered helped me move into another position so my limbs didn’t fall asleep. Lying still for that long can be quite a challenge – both physically and mentally. Several times during the evening, I was extremely aware of how cocooned I was – I had the overwhelming sensation of how close the thread was to my face, for example. If you let those feelings get the best of you, they can turn into an almost primal fear where you just HAVE TO MOVE RIGHT NOW. So, it takes a lot of mental control to steer yourself away from that.

It was a lot of fun listening to people talk about me, though! Many people thought I was a mannequin, and more than once during the evening I heard conversations like this:

Guy: What, so she just found all of these mannequins and covered them in string? I guess that’s kinda cool.

Girl: These are mannequins? Are you sure?

Guy: Well, yeah, I mean no actual person could lie that still and OH MY GOD SHE’S BREATHING.

Girl: Wow.

Guy: Wow.

At the end of the night, Vered came to each of us and told us we could get up extricate ourselves from our thread cocoons and leave – as soon as we started to rise, everyone in the gallery applauded. Good show!

Finally! After months of waiting, it’s here – Law & Order is returning to Monday nights on NBC, which means… my episode is airing! So of course, I’m having a party.

It will be at Camp, a bar in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. It’s off the Bergen St. F/G stop. I know this sucks for some of you, but a. they SERVE S’MORES! and b. the location provides easy access to Original Cyn Burlesque afterwards, which is only a few stops away. THEN you’d have the choice of both the R and the F/G to get home! Eh? Eh? Whaddaya think? C’mon… you know you want to make s’mores with me… or at least toast some marshmallows. Failing that, there’s always drinking, I guess. But, S’MORES!

The festivities will begin at 7:30pm with Law & Order trivia – free drinks to the winner, so come on out!
